Homemade Apple Sauce

An apple a day keeps the doctor away… forget the doctor, you will have a hard time keeping yourself away from this easy, healthy and satisfying treat. Every time I see a pack of reduced apples at Longos I make this (or apple crisp).  Ideally you can get a variety of apples or Macintosh make the best sauce, stay away from ones like Red and Golden Delicious. I have no real recipe, I just eye ball everything, but to estimate.

6 apples, cored, peeled and chopped in medium cubes
¾ cup water
1 tablespoons of sugar (more or less depending on your sweet tooth)
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Sprinkle of nutmeg (optional)

Cook in a pot on medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. It’s really that easy.  Nutritious and delicious homemade applesauce! Serve it hot or cold. You can try it on top of a little vanilla frozen yogurt for an extra special treat.
